Physics senior Reyna Houston co-authors paper on seismically generated sound on Venus
Reyna Houston, a graduating senior in the Department of Physics at UL Lafayette, is co-author on a paper recently published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, entitled "Seismo-acoustic coupling in the deep atmosphere of Venus." The article presents the first predictions of the low-frequency acoustic field produced in Venus's supercritical deep atmosphere by ground motion generated by seismic events such as venusquakes or volcanic activity. The research, sponsored by the Louisiana Space Grant Consortium (LaSPACE), is the result of a fruitful collaboration between UL Lafayette (represented by Reyna Houston and ULL physics professor Andi Petculescu) and the Southern Methodist University/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (represented by Dr. Gil Averbuch). ...
