Dr. Andy Hollerman was awarded a Senior Fellowship with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) in West Bethesda, Maryland for Summer 2016. Less than one quarter of all applicants who apply for these fellowships are accepted. Dr. Hollerman has been working with Dr. Noel Guardala at NSWCCD on a variety of projects involving the effects of radiation on materials. In particular, Dr. Hollerman will design, build, and test a new irradiation chamber to complete a series of low energy (10-40 keV) implants using a variety of light ions on metals. As part of this work, Dr. Hollerman will also complete a series of beam implants using higher energy ions (200-500 keV) using the 5SDH-2 Pelletron located at the Louisiana Accelerator Center. This fellowship will be the start of a long-term collaboration between Dr. Hollerman and Dr. Guardala at NSWCDD.
