Dr. Grant Gibson’s Gift to Physics

At the gate of the holiday season, Physics receives the second gift from Dr. Grant T. Gibson. Dr. Gibson donates over $55,000 to establish the Dr. Grant Gibson Scholarly Travel & Research Fund in Physics. The endowed gift will provide annual funds for physics students and faculty to support field research, conference travel, unpaid internships, and other forms of professional development. Dr. Gibson is a generous benefactor and this is his second gift for Physics. In 2016 Dr. Gibson sponsored the creation of The Grant Gibson Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory,  providing over $50,000 for new, cutting-edge laboratory equipment. Several cohorts of students have worked in the laboratory enhancing their research preparation and building a bridge between the classroom and the industry job market.

Grant Gibson is the founder and CEO of GATE Energy in Houston TX.  He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  After completing his PhD in Corrosion Science and Engineering from the University of Manchester in the UK, Grant founded GATE Energy in Houston TX.  Dr. Gibson’s expertise is in the design, installation, and commissioning of deepwater oil & gas facilities.

Today GATE Energy employs over 300 staff and contractors working from West Texas Shale to the Deepwater oil & gas sector through to the Mid-Stream sector for clients such as Shell, BP, Chevron, LLOG, Koch, and ExxonMobil in the Lower 48, Brazil, Gulf of Mexico, Asia, and West Africa.

Dr. Gibson currently serves as Chairman and CEO of GATE Energy and is also is the Managing Director of the Singapore and South Korean operations.
