The Department of Physics is ranked 146th among 429 surveyed physics departments in the country in research and development expenditures. This recent statistic comes from the Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) Survey, the National Science Foundation’s annual index of research expenditures, released by NSF last week.

Our Department has been maintaining its high ranking for the last several years, attesting for the quality of our faculty's research. We are prepared for the challenge to achieve  even higher ranking  among our peers as the Department welcomes its first cohort of doctoral students this fall in the first College of Sciences multidisciplinary Ph.D. program in Earth and Energy Sciences. We are ready to step up and open an era of convergence research at UL Lafayette.
