New PhD Program

PhD in Earth and Energy Sciences

Positions for Ph.D. students are available in the new Earth and Energy Sciences Program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The program is designed for students who want to become exceptional inter- and multi-disciplinary researchers and gain the skills and knowledge for newly emerging careers in academia, research, government, and industry.

Students will gain expertise in a distinct field, which is the main area of their dissertation research, while also acquiring an inter-disciplinary education in the physical sciences related to their area of specialization.

Our core courses, involving diverse faculty, will expose students to current challenges in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Chemistry, and Physics. Beyond the core courses, the requirements are structured to be rigorous yet flexible, accommodating the needs of a wide range of student interests and skills. The overall goal is to create first-rate interdisciplinary researchers capable of solving real-world problems.

The campus is located in Lafayette, Louisiana, which has been voted several times as one of the best cities to live in the United States and is famous for its rich history, cuisine, lively music, and festivals.
