Ms. Andrada Mandru, who obtained her MS Degree in Physics under the supervision of Dr. Gabriela Petculescu and is currently a Ph. D. candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Ohio University, has received two prestigious national awards from the American Vacuum Society for her work in experimental magnetism: the Russell & Sigurd Varian Award (pics here and here) and the Leo M. Falicov Student Award (pic here). Dating from 1982, the Russell & Sigurd Varian award is the oldest established student award, and is considered by many to be one of the most prestigious student awards in the world. The Leo M. Falicov Student Award recognizes outstanding research performed by a graduate student in magnetic interfaces and nanostructures.
